Assessment

By completing the projects as outlined in the Lesson Plans, students will create a portfolio of work for this unit. The rubric below is used for assessment by the teacher and point values can be assigned to each category to fit your grading scale. The checklist is used by students to self evaluate their projects as they go along, allowing them to develop their own critiquing skills.

Ink Paintings Shows minimal application of skills and is unable to revise work to improve. Cannot differentiate between different brushstrokes. Seal is not included. Shows application of learned skills and responds to feedback in a limited fashion. Includes less than 3 different brushstrokes. Seal is not included or is smeared. Applies learned brushstrokes with some skill, including at least 3. Seal is included and is placed to complement the image. Good mastery of at least 3 different brushstrokes shown. Pleasing composition. Seal enhances the total composition and is sharp and clear.

Origami Books Book is not assembled properly. Definitions are incomplete or missing from most pages. Seal is not included. Book is assembled without errors. Basic definitions are included on most pages. Seal in included on cover. Book is assembled without errors and craftsmanship is sound. Definitions are included on each page. Sharp, defined seal stamp is included on cover. Book is completed properly with evident pride in workmanship. Thoughtful and complete definitions are included on each page. Poetry (Diamante) Poem does not meet style requirements and or is missing/incomplete. Poem meets style requirements and has limited response to artwork. Poem meets style requirements and shows originality and expressiveness. Poem meets style requirements, is creative and skillfully uses expressive language. Poem demonstrates response to artwork.

Student Checklist - I post this on the overhead as students work, thus eliminating the questions, "Am I done?" or "Is this good enough?" Students can be referred to the checklist to determine the answer for themselves!
